Welcome Back !

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our students and their families back to C.H. Norton for the 2017-18 school year. We look forward to another year of learning, growing and making a difference !

Staffing Updates

We have a few staff changes for this year. In June we said goodbye to Mrs. Gurman, Madame Ortiz, Mr. Penrose and Mrs. Miller from our teaching staff and Mrs. Mitchell who was an Early Childhood Educator on our FDK team. In addition we said goodbye to Mrs. Willick and Mrs. Plant from our Educational Assistant team. Finally, we said goodbye to Ms. Cox who is leaving to be the Vice Principal at John William Boich P.S. We wish them well as they embark on the next phase of their careers.

With all of these changes we are excited to welcome some new staff members. Ms. Clarke will be joining us as our Vice Principal, Mrs. Dodge will joining our Core French team and Mrs. Grieve will be joining our Full Day Kindergarten team.

Office Hours

Our office will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday Aug. 28th to Thursday Aug. 31st On Friday Sept. 1st the office will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.

School Supplies

Teachers have ordered basic supplies to provide to their students. Please see the C.H. Norton web site for a list of suggested supplies. These are suggestions only and not requirements. They are provided at this time so that families can take advantage of sales if they wish.

Class Lists

Class lists will be posted on the front doors of the school and on line on Friday Sept. 1st by 1 p.m. You will need your child's OEN number to identify them on the class list, this number can be found on the report card. Our teachers put a lot of thought into placing students in classes. Students are given the chance to provide input into who they would like to have as friends in their classes and we try our best to make sure at least one of their requests is met. In addition to this, classes are created to optimize learning based on the teacher’s knowledge of student learning styles.This is a very collaborative process requiring the input of sending and receiving teachers as well as school administration. Class changes are rarely made and if a change is required it is done after the start of school so that input from all staff can be considered.


Bus students will be able to find out information regarding their routes by clicking the Halton Student Transportation Service link on the C.H. Norton or HDSB web site. Questions regarding bussing should be directed to the Halton Student Transportation Service.


We encourage students to walk or ride to school whenever possible. If students are dropped off on Cleaver they need to cross the street with the crossing guards located at each of the stop signs on Cleaver. We ask parents not to drive into the parking lot during the times listed on the green sign at the parking lot entrance. Also, the back parking lot is for staff only. These rules ensure that our busses can drop off and pick up students safely. We appreciate your cooperation with this.

First Day Procedures

The first day of school is Tuesday September 5th. The dates for the remainder of the school year can be found on the school web site. Our school hours remain the same as last year. Supervision will begin on the blacktop at 9 a.m. Teachers will stand on the blacktop at the back of the school in order of grade and have signs indicating their name and class number. Students will line up with their teacher and enter the school at 9:15 a.m. First Nutrition break is 10:55 -11:35 a.m., Second Nutrition Break is 1:15 to 1:55 p.m., Dismissal is at 3:35 p.m. and Supervision ends at 3:50 p.m.
