Healthy Snack Program
The Healthy Snack program is run in partnership with Halton Food for Thought. The goal of this program is to work together to improve learning capacity, health and well-being of the children in the Halton Region by ensuring access to a healthy snack during the day.
We call our Healthy Snack Day "Fresh Fridays." Grades K-8 receive a healthy snack every Friday. The program is partially run by a grant from the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, parental donations and community sponsors. The purpose of the program is to assist children in achieving 5-10 daily servings of fruits and vegetables to promote healthy eating.
Some of the snacks the program has provided are:
• whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and orange slices
• whole wheat crackers with cheese
• cucumber and baby carrots
• snack mix with apple slices
There is also a snack bin located in the office. The snack bin contains granola bars, nutri-grain bars, all-bran bars, crackers, fruit cups, apple sauce and tuna packs.
The program is run by a group of parent volunteers who wash, chop and distribute the snacks. Please consider helping out with our Snack Program, volunteers are always welcome!
Thank you to Longo's Supermarket at 2900 Walker's Line for their continued generous support of the Healthy Snack program. Healthy Snacks at CH Norton continue to be enjoyed by our entire school population with help from our many volunteers from our local farms (Farm 2 School programs) and from our community (Longo's)!
